Who Pays?

So I had this topic of discussion on my mind the other day. This doesn't necessarily stem off of a disagreement but really a relationship I had heard of. It is my belief that when a guy and a girl go out, the guy pays for the date. No questions asked. I don't know exactly where I learned this from. Possibly my Dad or maybe this thought process was weaved into a guys genetics. But at what point does this stop? How long into the relationship should the guy be paying for EVERYTHING. Let's rewind back to the middle of the last century. I believe our culture was no doubt very conservative to a point where on 'I Love Lucy', during early seasons, Ricky and Lucy slept in different beds! When a guy saw a girl he came over to her house and they most likely were not all that intimate. I also don't think life was as hectic back then as it was today. Society has evolved into something completely. To get to my main point, I don't believe couples spent every waking hour together (unlike today where couples spend more than that). So let's say a couples relationship has surpassed the innocent, casual stage into a more serious, intimate relationship. This couple has thoughts of a future together. So should the guy still be paying for every meal? Every movie? Every single thing that involves spending? I believe back in the day that yes, guys were supposed to pay for girls...but they only went out once MAYBE twice a week! Hasn't society changed so drastically that maybe we should address this issue and possible reconsider the standard?

No wonder most guys get into high credit card debt...because there is a serious issue with how some girls think (not all....some).
